Spotting Tikkie fraud (2026): how the new trick works

Tikkie fraud is a scam using a fake payment request, often via WhatsApp - in 2026 increasingly with a cloned voice of someone you 'know'. The golden rule: a genuine Tikkie link always starts with https://tikkie.me/pay/. Anything else (tlkkie.nl, tikkie-betaal.com) is fake. When in doubt, call the person back on a number you already have.

Tikkie fraud isn't new, but the execution is getting more sophisticated. The typos and clumsy sentences of the past are gone; today it sounds and looks professional - and that's exactly what makes it dangerous.

How the trick works in 2026

You get a message or voice note via WhatsApp from someone who seems familiar. The voice has been cloned from public audio (Instagram, a podcast, LinkedIn). The message: "I'm a bit stuck, can you finish off this Tikkie?"

The link looks like a legitimate payment request, but leads to a fake site that steals your money or login details. One variant: someone calls posing as a 'bank employee', sounds professional, and asks for 'verification' via a Tikkie or screen sharing.

Real versus fake Tikkie link

A genuine Tikkie link always starts with https://tikkie.me/pay/. In doubt? Don't open the link - go to your banking or Tikkie app yourself.

And remember: a bank will never ask you to transfer money 'for verification', nor to share your screen or pass on a code.

Why even tech-savvy people fall for it

The combination of a trusted (cloned) voice, a credible link and a little time pressure switches off your judgement. It works not because the victim is careless, but because everything adds up - until you check it.

What to do - and where to report

Call the person back on the number already saved in your contacts (don't message them). Don't settle payment requests for strangers via WhatsApp, and on Marktplaats/Vinted always pay through the platform.

Been scammed anyway? Block your bank straight away via the 24-hour fraud line, report it to the police, and notify the Fraudehelpdesk to warn others.
