Why Calmido?

We noticed that phone calls were becoming increasingly unpleasant.

Spam, aggressive sales, unknown numbers. At the same time, we were missing important calls because we'd become cautious. There had to be a better way.

How it works

When someone calls you, you immediately see what other users report about this number. You decide whether to answer, but with the right information.

That's why we built Calmido around community -- users help each other by sharing information about calls. Our calling app is intelligent yet simple, without complicated menus. Together, we're making the phone a tool for meaningful connection again.

Safe communication is for everyone.

Calmido builds from a simple idea: everyone has the right to know who's calling. The verification protocol behind us is governed by TARIDE, an independent foundation we don't control. Calmido Phone is free. The reports come from the community. A private individual's name is never shown without their explicit consent.

How we pay the bills: in the future, businesses will pay for identity verification — registering their company, their employees, and the link between them on the TARIDE protocol. We're also planning a Premium version of Calmido Phone for users who want more. The free app stays free.

Everyone benefits — including the people who never download the app. They search the Calmido Directory before answering a stranger. And once the TARIDE protocol is operational, they pick up your verified call without needing to install anything.

Our principles

Data safety and privacy

A private individual's name is never shown in Calmido without their explicit consent. Public business data is shown because it's already public. People in your own contacts are named because you chose to have them there. Everyone else is a number, plus any Call Reports from the community.

Behind the scenes: we don't listen to your calls. We don't analyse call metadata to train AI models. We encrypt everything in transit and at rest. We don't hold private keys. Your contacts never leave your phone.

Calmido cannot disclose personal data to any organisation or institution, because we don't hold most of it.

Accessibility

We are committed to making our apps, website and communications accessible for everyone, including people with disabilities, by supporting standards such as WCAG. Your feedback is most helpful when you encounter non-accessible content.

Independent governance — not ours

Calmido is a Dutch limited company (B.V.) — a for-profit business. We're not a charity, and we don't pretend to be.

The verification protocol behind our caller identification — TARIDE — is governed by a separate, independent Dutch foundation, currently in formation. Calmido B.V. doesn't control that foundation. That separation is deliberate: it means the layer that decides whether a caller is who they say they are isn't ours to corrupt, even if we wanted to.
